OUR STORY

How we started

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It’s easy. Just click “Edit Text” or double click me and you can start adding your own content and make changes to the font. Feel free to drag and drop me anywhere you like on your page. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

This is a great space to write long text about your company and your services. You can use this space to go into a little more detail about your company. Talk about your team and what services you provide. Tell your visitors the story of how you came up with the idea for your business and what makes you different from your competitors. Make your company stand out and show your visitors who you are.

Activity Ideas for Teachers and Librarians

Looking for some ideas on how to use The Spiderwick Chronicles as a spark for further learning? Try out some of these activity ideas in your library or classroom.

Host a movie night:

Encourage critical reading skills by hosting a movie night after kids have finished the series. Watch the film based off of the books (provide popcorn or themed snacks, if you want) and then afterward discuss together how the book and film are different. Some questions to ask: What was left out of the movie? Why do you think these changes were made? How would you make your own Spiderwick movie?

Make maps and field guides:

Ask students to make maps and guidebooks of places and things in their own life.Perhaps they might make a map of their own home. Or maybe a guide for helping new students around the school. What might a map of the library look like? How about a map of a world made entirely of food? Encourage kids to get creative.

Do some creative writing:

There are lots of ways to use this series to encourage kids to write creatively. Here are some ideas for prompts:

• In The Spiderwick Chronicles the brownie, Thimbletack, collects all sorts of strange things in the wall. Do you have a collection? Write about the items in your collection, how it started, and why it is interesting to you.

• Arthur Spiderwick's guide really helps Jared, Simon, and Mallory to learn more about the dangers and wonders of the fairy world. Has a guide ever been helpful to you in a new situation? Write about that time.

• Sometimes things can get scary at the Spiderwick Estate. Do you have a spooky story? Either from your own life, or a favorite one someone has told you? Write about it.

• From fencing to animal collecting, Jared, Mallory, and Simon all have very different and interesting hobbies. Do you have any hobbies? How did you start them? What makes them interesting to you? Write about your hobbies.

• Many of the creatures in The Spiderwick Chronicles speak in rhymes. Have you ever tried to communicate through rhyming? Try to write a letter to a friend or family member while making sure that every line rhymes.
